What Does Digital Transformation in the Pharmaceutical Industry Look Like First-Hand?

In collaboration with Pfizer, one of the world's leading pharmaceutical manufacturers, we developed ePosjetitelj (eVisitor), a digital solution that modernizes and automates the entire process of external contractors, visitors, and employees entering a business complex.
In one of the most heavily regulated industries, the process of registering and training contractors was time-consuming, administratively demanding, and a security risk. It involved paper forms, in-person training, and manual processing of work permits.
Our shared vision was to simplify the entire flow while maintaining, or even raising, the existing level of security.
The solution we implemented consists of two components: a web application and a physical kiosk on site.
Through the web interface, contractors, visitors, or employees can complete training in advance, pass tests, and receive automatic notifications about their status.
On the day of arrival, they can identify themselves at the kiosk and sign documents digitally, and the system automatically issues them a QR code for automated entry into the facility, provided all security criteria are met.
Administrators, on the other hand, have full control over every step, from sending invitations to contractors and issuing work permits to logging entries, all in real time, with no paper and no duplicated work.

Technology Architecture
The system is built on a modern technology architecture. The backend is developed in PHP (Laravel), using Filament tables for efficient administration and data management.
The frontend is developed in Vue.js, enabling an interactive user experience and fast, real-time interaction.
The user interface and experience (UX/UI) were carefully designed in Figma with an emphasis on simplicity, accessibility, and intuitive navigation.
All application components are connected via a REST API, which allows modularity and easy upgrades to the system.
Results
The results quickly became visible:
– The training and entry process has been shortened.
– Communication is automated, and human error has been reduced to a minimum.
– All records are digital, available with one click, and compliant with security standards.
"Digital transformation": a phrase that often brings to mind a project that will burn through a lot of money and change nothing. A buzzword with no clear meaning that doesn't say what exactly is being transformed, why, and how. Digital solutions are often developed with a focus on technology rather than real user needs, which results in unintuitive systems that, instead of simplifying work, make it harder or go unused.
This project shows that digital solutions, or that infamous transformation, deliver concrete, measurable results even in highly regulated industries. It doesn't have to be slow, even if complex, when you work with a clear goal and a focus on users and security.
