The ERP That Won Me Over: My Odoo Story

When someone asks me, "Why Odoo?", it's hard to give a short answer. It's really the story of my professional journey, of changes in the market, and of how I, together with the Notus team, found a new opportunity to grow.
My Background: From FoxPro to Odoo
My career goes back to 2000, when I joined the STORM Computers d.o.o. team. At the time we were working on our own business system, Compass, first a DOS application in FoxPro, and then a new version in Delphi with an Oracle database. It was a big step forward, and the system ran for our users for years.
Later I also had the chance to work on Navision (today Dynamics 365), where we developed the localization and carried out implementations that still work today.
Around 2010, it was time for a new step. We were looking for an open-source ERP solution that was flexible and free of vendor lock-in. That's how I first came into contact with OpenERP, which would later become Odoo.
What Attracted Me to Odoo?
What attracted me most was the open-source business model, the freedom to create, customize, and share solutions. It wasn't a single decision or an "aha" moment, but more the result of changes in the market and an opportunity to work in a way that gives us more control and creativity.
Working with Odoo opened my eyes when it comes to community. Unlike closed systems, the principle here is: if you help others, others will help you. Sharing knowledge and solving problems together becomes a natural way of working.
It's hard to single out just one project. But what means the most to me is that the solutions we implemented more than ten years ago are still running and creating value. That's proof of quality and longevity.
At Notus, I've had the chance to work on projects that have shaped me professionally. As Head of Development, I carry additional responsibility, not only for my own work but also for the team.
But that's exactly what motivates me: constant learning, constant challenges, and the feeling that together we're building something valuable.
Odoo is constantly evolving. Every new version brings capabilities that open up new areas and challenges. Personally, I'm increasingly drawn to an advisory and design role, creating solutions from a broader perspective, while younger colleagues will take on more of the hands-on implementation.

"If you're thinking about a career in the ERP world and wondering where to start, my advice is: start where you'll have the chance to learn, experiment, and grow. For me, that was Odoo and Notus."
